Synthetic structure; papier-mâché; construction compound and epoxy on MDF.
190 × 100 cm — 2025
Inspired by underwater light refractions. Turquoise tones and dynamic lines echo the shifting clarity of the Sea of Los Cabos.
“Caustic” is a textured wall sculpture inspired by the light refractions that form beneath the surface of the sea. Turquoise tones and dynamic linear patterns echo the shifting clarity of the waters of Los Cabos, translating this fleeting optical phenomenon into a sculptural composition.
The relief surface captures the movement of light as it bends and disperses through water, creating a sense of fluidity and constant transformation. As illumination changes, the piece evolves—activating depth, contrast, and reflection throughout the day. The use of epoxy enhances this luminous quality, amplifying the sensation of immersion and transparency.
Created by Paloma Rocha, “Caustic” bridges natural phenomena and contemporary abstraction, offering a vibrant yet refined presence. It is a statement work for collectors, architects, and designers seeking contemporary wall sculptures that engage with light, movement, and spatial experience.
