“OBSIDIANA”, 2026
Materia Viva Series
Mixed media on canvas
120 × 160 cm
“Obsidiana” is an abstract painting inspired by obsidian, a volcanic glass formed through the rapid cooling of lava. Part of Paloma Rocha’s ongoing Materia Viva series, the work explores the transformation of natural matter through movement, texture, and organic processes.
Deep blacks, earthy grays, mineral whites, and copper tones flow across the canvas, creating formations reminiscent of molten rock, geological fractures, and shifting mineral surfaces.
Through fluid compositions and layered materials, the painting evokes the raw energy of volcanic activity and the continuous transformation of the Earth's surface.
Balancing intensity with organic movement, “Obsidiana” brings a strong yet refined presence to contemporary architectural spaces.
